pj_10-22-13

Venue: Wells Fargo Center
Location: Philadelphia, PA

Setlist:
01. Pendulum
02. Wash
03. Nothingman
04. Lightning Bolt
05. Corduroy
06. Mind Your Manners
07. Amongst The Waves
08. Hail Hail
09. Satan’s Bed
10. Untitled
11. MFC
12. Even Flow
(Ed compliments Mike on his playing. He also says, “You can be a good band without a great drummer but you can’t be a great band without a great drummer. Now I am not saying we are great but we would be shit without Matt Cameron. Oh, and Soundgarden, so Matt is an interesting band and the great band Soundgarden.
Not only can Mike play like you just heard but he can do this as well.”)
13. Sirens
14. Got Some
(Ed notes that Julius “Dr. J” Erving’s name appeared on flags in the last two buildings the band has played in. He dedicates the next song to Dr. J.)
15. Given To Fly
16. Present Tense
17. Infallible
(Ed says they received a letter from a soldier named PJ. In the letter PJ thanked the band for helping to keep him alive. Ed points him out in the audience and then runs over and gives PJ a bottle of wine. Ed says that they are very happy that PJ is home now and going to school.)
18. World Wide Suicide
19. Do The Evolution
20. Better Man/Save It For Later-(Charley, Cox, Morton, Steele, Wakeling)
(Ed improvs lyrics (or quotes a song?) about helping someone and being helped and being shy before going into the “don’t bring me down” bit of ‘Save It For Later’)

Encore Break 1
(When the band comes back Ed asks if it is time to open the champagne. He decides against it because the last time they had champagne at a show he couldn’t remember what happened. He talks about a gigantic joint being thrown to him at a last show in Seattle and he has fond memories of not being able to remember that show either. He talks about closing the Spectrum and points out a woman to Mike that seems to be wearing her makeup from the last Spectrum show. He then says, “oh I get it. It’s new. I want to dedicate the next song and the next 20 years to this person.” He continues, “I have been told by people who listen to this stuff closer than I do that we played this next song at the Spectrum but we didn’t actually finish it. So we are gonna play it and just keep on going.”)
21. Parachutes
22. Yellow Moon
23. Come Back
24. Future Days
(“A long, long time ago the set lists were about thirteen songs long. Sometimes eleven. This song was usually number ten.”)
25. Breath
26. State Of Love And Trust
27. Unthought Known
(Ed notes that he grew up in the midwest but moved to the west coast and that the rest of the band were from the west. Music from Europe seemed so exotic as did music from the east coast. Bands like Patti Smith, Ramones and Bruce Springsteen. He thanks the people of Philadelphia for taking Pearl Jam in.)
28. Porch
(more globes getting pushed around by the band. Ed gets what looks like a basketball at one point and is dribbling it. He climbs onto his globe and swings around while singing “hey hey”)

Encore Break 2
(we are not sure when we will get back here so we are gonna keep going but first we gotta play a song to the folks in the back.)

29. Last Kiss-(Cochran)
(“The last song is for Nick, Matt and Pierre at WMMR. They were the first ones to play it. It is great that there is still live radio. It is great to be able to call up and request a song and talk to a real person. Ed says it is great to be able to celebrate or 23rd birthday as band. And we got a present our record went top five, no four…three, two, one. It went to number one. And the great thing is, we used to not give a fuck about stuff like that. And we still don’t…but it feels pretty good.” Ed starts to play the opening chords of “Leaving Here” and messes them up. “This is what a number one band sounds like…Okay I got it now.”)
30. Leaving Here-(Holland, Holland, Dozier)
31. Blood
(Ed and audience sing “happy birthday Pearl Jam”)
32. Alive
33. Baba O’Riley-(Townshend)
34. Yellow Ledbetter

08. Brain Of J
09. Animal
(for about the 20th time in the same situation we get to say, ‘Hello Philadelphia’. Pretty nice place ya got here. You were probably with us when we tore down the Spectrum down. We mays as well tear this place down as well. Slowly, piece by piece. This next song is by Jeff Ament. I would like to dedicate it to Brendan O’Brien who is here tonight.”)
10. Pilate
11. Even Flow
12. Infallible
13. I Got Shit
14. Wishlist
(Ed relates an anecdote about putting a white powder on his finger nails to strengthen them tonight which made him think of living in an apartment when he was 15 or so and had a low rent drug dealer for room mate who would sell “Black Beauty” speed which Ed would crack open and ingest the powder inside. He then asks if there are any kids in the audience. He comments on how stupid he was to think he needed the speed to keep going and how he named his guitar “Black Beauty”. He says he doesn’t understand the whole rock star and drugs. Why would you need anything more when you are on stage playing with your best friends for an audience that feel like friends even you don’t actually know them. What else could you want? (this what else could you want relates to the outro improv lyrics of “wishlist”)
15. Sirens
16. Lukin
17. Not For You/Modern Girl-(Sleater Kinney)
18. Let The Records Play
(“Here’s another one about the same goddamn thing”)
19. Spin The Black Circle
20. Rearviewmirror
Encore Break 1
(Ed talks to audience behind stage. Notes that is many more times than the number of people who saw them in a club the first time they played in Philadelphia. Ed spots people in the upper level behind the stage with a “Gabba Gabba Hey” sign and says he would like them to be brought down to sit on the side of the stage. They deserve better seats. “That would solve one of the problems we have. Last time we were here we had 99 problems, now we are down to 98. Next time we can get to 96 tears.” He then talks about his friend Brian, who had been unjustly imprisoned and was recently freed. Brian lost a friend of his that was in the military. Ed talks about how he is glad the troops are starting to come home and that we need to properly take care of them.)

23. Yellow Moon
24. Mother-(Waters)
25. Given To Fly
26. Unthought Known

(Ed introduces Andy and Jordan, the folks holding the Ramones sign. It is Jordan’s first concert and Ed assures him they are all like this. Ed dedicates the next song to them.)
29. I Believe In Miracles-(Ramone, Ray)
30. Porch

Encore Break 2
